Parupalli Kashyap
About
Parupalli Kashyap's badminton career is a story of perseverance. He created history by reaching the quarter-finals of men's singles at the 2012 London Olympics, being the first male player from India to do so.
At the age of 14, the shuttler was diagnosed with asthma and bouts of dizziness which affected him on the court.
But he never gave up and went on to win gold at the Commonwealth games in 2014 and even reached the men’s quarter-finals at the Olympics - both significant moments in the history of Indian badminton.
He trained under both former all-England champions Prakash Padukone and Pullela Gopichand, the latter eventually becoming his full-time coach.

Kashyap was the ‘Icon Player’ for the Indian Badminton League team, Banga Beats in the 2013 edition.
He was ranked No. 8 in Hyderabad ‘Times Most Desirable Men’ 2014 list and also bagged the ‘Popular Choice Title’ at the ‘Times of India Sports Award’.
He was conferred with the ‘Arjuna Award’ for badminton in 2012
